This Year 2 writing unit takes flight with the adventurous story of Amelia Earhart, a pioneering aviator who dared to dream big. Using the book as a high-flying stimulus, students will embark on a writing journey filled with exciting activities:
Predicting the Journey: Students will soar into Amelia’s world by making predictions about her daring adventures using picture clues and their own knowledge.
Asking Questions: Curiosity will take the lead as students ask questions about Amelia’s life, her plane, and the challenges she faced, using question stems like “Who,” “What,” “Why,” and “How.” Â
Unveiling Hidden Meanings: Students will become detectives, using inference skills to uncover the emotions, motivations, and significance of Amelia’s actions and the people she met along the way. Â
Sequencing the Adventure: Students will map out Amelia’s incredible journey by sequencing key events, from her early fascination with flight to her record-breaking achievements.
This unit not only elevates essential writing skills but also inspires young learners to reach for the skies and pursue their dreams with courage and determination.
